This book is respectfully dedicated to the nine named defendants, living and dead, in Operation Tiger, the state’s illegitimate attack on Gay’s the Word, and by extension queer books and queer lives. They have a worthy place in a long and sadly ongoing resistance, and we owe them a great deal:
